PROGRAMMING THE DISPLAYS

With the database(s) copied to the SmartMedia card, the card can be installed in a display unit. Each display unit on the aircraft must be updated. For ease of operation, the steps described will start with the PFD and move to each additional MFD.

To program the display follow the steps below:

  1. Ensure power is removed from the system.

  2. Insert the SmartMedia card, gold side up and forward, in the bottom center slot of the PFD.

  3. Power the system on.

  4. Select "Update Databases, Limits and Application" option using the control knob and push the knob to enter.

  5. Verify that the database is updating. A normal Navigation database takes approximately 3 to 5 minutes to update. A normal Obstruction database takes about 1 to 2 minutes.

  6. Remove power from the system.

  7. Remove the SmartMedia card from the PFD.

  8. Repeat steps 1 thru 7 for each additional display.

PROGRAM VERIFICATION

When all of the displays on the aircraft have been updated, ensure that the SmartMedia card is removed and apply power to the system. Each display unit will perform the same function:
- Unit initialization
- Software initialization
- Software test
- Status page

When all of the display units display the status page, verify the following information:

"Software OK" is displayed in the middle of the unit
Verify Navigation database (Americas, International, or World)
Verify Navigation expiration date
Verify Obstruction date (Obstruction does not "expire", the date should be considered the "effective" date)

If all four of the above items are correct, press any key on each of the display units to start the system. You have successfully updated the database(s).
